• Ask for the manufacture date code on the new tyres. Tyres that sat in a warehouse for two years have already used part of their life

• Ask whether alignment is a printout or a claim. Insist on before-and-after figures
• Ask whether the alignment covers rear axle too, or only front. Rear misalignment causes tyre wear people blame on the front
• Ask whether old tyres are disposed of or charged for

Getting your car ready

Know your tyre size, and check the date codes on your current tyres before assuming you need new ones. In this climate rubber ages out before tread wears out, so a four-year-old tyre with good tread may still be the thing to replace.
